Samsung Electronics makes a big foray into the European B2B display market.

On February 4, Samsung Electronics announced that it is demonstrating its outstanding capabilities in large screen monitors for public areas at Integrated Systems Europe 2009, Europe's largest exhibition devoted to B2B displays held in Amsterdam, the Netherlands from February 3 to 5.

At the 400-square-meter booth, Samsung highlights a wide array of products and solutions to put on the market for public-area large screen digital information displays, which is expected to expand enormously in the near future.

Until last year, Samsung had its local subsidiary participate in the ISE on its behalf, but from this year Visual Display Division at headquarter is leading the participation with more products exhibited in an attempt to strengthen its foray into the large screen DID market.

Samsung debuted Samsung ID 2, or Interlocking Display 2, a large-screen display designed for video wall solutions with an ultra-narrow bezel allowing for a screen-to-screen distance between two neighboring monitors of only 7.3 millimeters. The minimized transition gap between displays ensures a homogeneous picture across the matrix. Featuring a dedicated stand enabling various forms of video walls, the product earned Samsung the CES 2009 Innovation Award.

Samsung also showcased 46-inch, 70-inch, and 82-inch outdoor large-screen monitors which function as all-in-one. As they are equipped with displays, air conditioning system and contents implementing PC, they can be used easily simply by connecting them to power. Since these monitors can endure temperatures between -30 and 50 degrees Celsius and are waterproof, dustproof, and moisture proof, they can be used in all-weather conditions. In particular, the embedded shock detection sensor helps prevent the product from being stolen and broken. In addition, the built-in speaker sounds an alarm when the monitor is hit by something and the built-in camera records pictures of nearby areas. The front of the monitor is also covered with tempered glass. The large-screen monitor is expected to be used for ticketing displays, information kiosks at bus stations, promotion stands at public offices, drive-through menu displays at fast food restaurants and many other purposes.

Samsung Electronics also unveiled a 46-inch large-screen information monitor able to display various kinds of information outdoors. As this monitor is clearly seen under direct sun and equipped with built-in cooling fans, enabling the panel to endure in hot conditions, it is likely to appeal to banks, convenience stores, mobile phone shops and fast food restaurants.

Meanwhile, Samsung showed 52-inch 3D monitors, which display full-HD pictures in various conditions and offers maximized 3D effects at a three-meter distance. With this product, Samsung will move fast to dominate the 3D display market.

At the same time, Samsung exhibited large-screen monitor solutions called Samsung UD (Ultra Definition), which feature gigapixel high-resolution pictures and zoom-in and zoom-out on video walls, enabling several kinds of content to be displayed. This product can control up to 250 monitors with a single server and show pictures from up to 125 PCs on the video wall. In addition, as the solutions can show real-time video transferred from camcorders, webcams and other video recorders, they can be used for a wide range of events.

Finally, Samsung unveiled advanced solution that allows people to buy snacks and beverages using the touch screen installed on existing vending machines. It can also manage inventory, sales information, and error data in real time remotely via wired and wireless network. As the product can update ad content onto vending machines from anywhere over the Web, it was very popular among the visitors.

"By putting several market-leading innovative products on show at ISE 2009, Europe's largest exhibition dedicated to B2B displays, we have laid a foundation for making an impression on various classes of B2B customers as an integration solution supplier providing both monitors and solutions. We will make a vigorous foray in the fast growing large-screen information display monitor market with the new products to strengthen our position as a globally-recognized display maker," said Vice President Jaeyoung Lew of Samsung Electronics Visual Display Division.
